Founded in 2013, Cascadia Senior Living set out to create joyful and vibrant senior living communities, providing care in settings designed for interaction and engagement. Today, Cascadia manages 14 locations across the Pacific Northwest and is a national leader in independent living, assisted living, memory care, and respite care.
With disparate data platforms and a diverse set of stakeholders — including executives, care providers, and investors — Cascadia’s management faced a mountain of tedious manual report generation just to make decisions. To escape Excel Hell, Cascadia turned to Skypoint to unify its data on the Skypoint AI Platform (AIP) and implement Power BI reports for each of its stakeholder groups.
Skypoint has made us a different company. We’re so much more sophisticated now with the metrics we can see at a moment’s notice and how that can dictate decisions. Skypoint’s dashboards have made our lives easier, and if the people running our communities are happier and have better job satisfaction, that will be felt by the residents too — and that’s the ultimate goal.
Michael Schefter, CFO, Cascadia Senior Living
Cascadia Senior Living initially used a one-size-fits-all system for its CRM, healthcare, sales, and marketing needs. Cascadia felt that this system presented too many limitations and compromises, so they switched to multiple platforms that were fit for purpose.
Unfortunately, these platforms did not integrate with each other — a common problem in senior living. So, while the needs of individual departments were met, there was little visibility or understanding of operations at a managerial level.
To make sense of their disconnected data, Cascadia’s leaders and stakeholders had to manually export data from each platform, create their own report templates, and extract the data they wanted for analysis. These processes took hours every week.
Frustrations with siloed data and reporting wasn’t limited to Cascadia’s leadership. Cascadia’s care staff were impacted as well, as they needed to spend an inordinate amount of time logging into different platforms to track hours and enter data.
All told, the time and energy that Cascadia Senior Living was wasting on wrangling data was distracting them from their most important mission: providing great care.
Cascadia Senior Living turned to Skypoint to unify its data on the Skypoint AIP and implement meaningful reporting solutions. Skypoint’s forward-deployed engineers (FDEs) provided senior living report templates as a starting point, and helped the Cascadia team understand the most important data to visualize to meet their needs. Then, Skypoint’s FDEs iterated on dashboards with the Cascadia team until they arrived at suitable solutions for all their stakeholders.
We went through multiple iterations of different dashboards with Skypoint until we got to what we needed, so that at the click of a mouse, our teams could see everything they needed in one spot. I don’t even want to guess how much time we’ve saved with these dashboards… an hour a day of pulling reports, times 50 employees… it’s been a crazy value-add.

Today, Cascadia Senior Living is a transformed organization. Leadership checks their dashboards every morning to understand their priorities for the day. Meetings and strategic discussions are more effective because everyone looks at the same near-real time data, a single version of the truth. And, because Cascadia now has to manage access in just one platform instead of five, it’s much easier to share data with their partners and stakeholders.
With the time and energy Cascadia has saved with automated reporting, they are able to evaluate their processes and metrics at a deeper level and make improvements much more quickly. Now, Cascadia is now building additional clinical dashboards for their nurses, even as they continue to fine-tune their existing dashboards.
Care hours are our daily benchmark, based on our census and acuity levels. With Skypoint, we now have a much better grasp on what our care hours should be, and the executive director can see that information and just go make sure we have the right people in the right places rather than having to figure it out all the time. It clarifies expectations for what we should be doing and makes our lives easier.
